Students of digital humanities are faced with the challenge of finding their way in a subfield that employs digital tools. This shift can be frustrating and intimidating to students who have analyzed texts only by writing essays. This project develops an assignment that merges tool use with critique to teach students how to construct a model of an object that figures importantly in a poem, creative essay, short story, novel or game with the goal that making the prototype will aid in the interpretive endeavor of understanding the world of the imaginative work, the events, and ideas contained therein.
