Faculty are charged with the responsibility of teaching course content while fostering effective skills that leade to a lifelong enjoyment of learning; however, these skills are often overlooked, and this enjoyment often hampered, by a deadline-driven grading environment. Games, however, cultivate a low-risk setting that promotes experimentation, problem-solving strategies, and collaboration in ways the grade book cannot. To facilitate a lifelong commitment to learning, we intend to design a digital gaming environment that allows faculty to associate specific learning skills with relevant course content while providing students with access and motivation to engage with alternative learning skills content.
