Instructors and students will use screencast technology to provide feedback on writing. Screencasts improve upon traditional feedback by using aural and visual modalities, offering a multisensory approach unlike common methods of assessing students writing, which usually consist of handwritten comments (often editing marks with a narrative at the end); the Track Changes or Comments functions in Microsoft Word; or a typed, memo-style narrative separate from the document. Studies suggest that students perceive multisensory feedback as flexible and effective. Furthermore, improving writing overall can contribute to ODU's Quality Enhancement Plan: Stretching the Human Mind through Learning and Writing.
