Beyond Accessibility: Leveraging Canvas for Inclusive Design

This session will introduce Universal Design for Learning (UDL) as an inclusive framework for course design to meet the needs of all learners by addressing learner variability and reducing barriers to learning. Participants will discuss ways to implement UDL in Canvas in face-to-face synchronous courses, asynchronous online classes, and everything in-between.

  • Describe the benefits of UDL for learners and instructors
  • Discuss applications of the UDL guidelines to their own courses
  • Identify tools and strategies in Canvas that can be used to incorporate UDL guidelines

About the Presenter

Ana Redstone

Ana Redstone is the former Lead Instructional Designer with the Center for Learning and Teaching and a Ph.D. student in ODU's Instructional Design & Technology. Her previous publications include research on the Community of Inquiry and Faculty Professional Development. Currently, she is conducting research on Universal Design for Learning Online Higher Education environments.
