Blackboard: Discussion Board (Add a Thread; Reply to a Message)

Discussion Board Tutorial:
In this short tutorial you will learn the basic steps for discussion board assignments in this course. Your assignment may require you to create a new thread or to reply to an existing message, or both.

Definitions:

Discussion Board - the area in Blackboard where electronic discussion is conducted. The discussion board hosts discussion areas that are 'class-wide' or for groups. In class-wide discussion, all student have access to post and read messages in available forums. In group discussion, only members of the group can participate.

Forum - a topic based container for online discussion. The discussion board can contain one forum or many. The structure depends on the instructor's preferences and needs for the class.

Thread - a series of posted messages linked together, typically about one topic. The parent post of the thread appears at the left most position and responses are indented to the right at various levels.

Post - an entry made in a discussion board. A post may be the first item in the discussion thread or it may be a reply to an existing post.

Attachment - a file that is added as an external resource to a discussion board post. The file is linked to the message.
