Looking Up a Course: Additional Considerations

BROADCAST COURSES

  • If choosing a broadcast course (one offered at our distant education sites/centers), please pay careful attention to the 'site' where the course is offered. If you have chosen a broadcast course and there are multiple choices for 'site' for a particular course, you MUST choose the 'site' for which you will attend. For example, if you live in Virginia and you are closest to the John Tyler site in Chester, VA, then you choose that location under 'site' for the course you want to take, i.e. JTCC-John Tyler Community College.
  • When you have found the right 'site', look at the 'call number' for the course and write it down. This will be the number you will use for registration purposes.

WEB BASED COURSES (Online)

  • If choosing a web-based course, please pay careful attention to the 'site' where the course is being offered. For example, if you are a local student, someone who is within 50 miles of campus, you will want to choose the DSC2 'site' location; if you are outside the local area, but in the State of Virginia, you want to choose DSC5 'site' location; and if you are out of the State of Virginia, you want to choose DSC7 'site' location.
  • When you have found the right 'site', look at the 'call number' for the course and write it down. This will be the number you will use for registration purposes.

VIDEOSTREAMING COURSES

  • If choosing a videostreaming course, please pay careful attention to the 'site' the course is being offered at. For example, if you are local student, someone who is within 50 miles of campus, you will want to choose the VS2 'site' location; if you are outside the local area, but in the State of Virginia, you want to choose VS 'site' location; and if you are out of the State of Virginia, you want to choose VS7 'site' location.
  • A videostreaming course does not meet at a certain location, it is taken on your home or work computer. Your computer will require a broadband internet connection (ie. cable modem, DSL) or faster in order to take a videostreaming course.
  • When you have found the right 'site', look at the 'call number' for the course and write it down. This will be the number you will use for registration purposes.
