How do I schedule a guest speaker for my class in Gornto?

Purpose & Scope

Faculty members can enrich the classroom experience by inviting guest speakers to the classroom.
The guest can be in the broadcast classroom (at Gornto or at one of the Higher Education Centers) or shown electronically by telephone or by two-way video. Two-way video guest appearances from non-ODU facilities will likely incur a room/network usage fee from the host facility. Funding will have to be arranged to cover the expenses. Sufficient lead time to plan a two-way video connection is essential.

1.1.

If guest speaker is local to the broadcast classroom, inform the control room operator at least one class period before the event.

Inform the control room operator (CRO) assigned to course. The CRO will set up room and audio systems accordingly. If the speaker is bringing a PowerPoint presentation or other form of media, inform the CRO. For optimum impact, the media should be checked by the CRO or a CLT staff member.

1.2.

Submit request for guest speaker assistance to the One- Stop Shop if course originates from Gornto and the guest speaker is within driving distance of a higher education center.

Speakers may originate from one of the ODU Higher Education Centers if broadcast classroom space is available. The CLT Faculty Support Services Manager will assist with arrangements.

1.3.

Submit request for guest speaker assistance to the One- Stop Shop if guest speaker is off-campus and not close to an ODU site.

  • Guest may speak to the class via telephone at no expense to the guest speaker.
  • Guest may speak to the class via two-way video connection.

Either mode requires a lead time of at least 3 weeks, depending on the circumstances. Fees may apply. Details will be discussed upon receipt of the request.
