Description:

The ePorfolio Learning Community is a gathering of Old Dominion University faculty and practitioners who are currently using an ePortfolio in their curriculum or are interested in using an ePortfolio as a teaching tool in their class. The group is encouraged to share readings with Learning Community members; email them to the Facilitator so there will be enough copies.

Preparation: Bring a thumb drive with photos, course videos, etc. that support your teaching focus.

At this meeting we will be setting up accounts to help initiate your own personal ePortfolio. We’ll be discussing way to use ePorfolios to integrate learning in your own courses, as well as integrating what students learn in their other courses. We will be demonstrating how some of the colleges here at ODU are using ePorfolios and how they are being used at other campuses.

Objectives:

09/16/2014 - The ePortfolio Learning Community is a gathering of Old Dominion University faculty and practitioners who are currently using an ePortfolio in their curriculum, or are interested in using an ePortfolio as a teaching tool in their class. After this workshop, participants will have set up an account where they can develop their own ePorfolio.

10/21/2014 - After this workshop, participants will have a better understanding of the use for ePortfolios and will have planned an assignment that could be set up in their ePortfolio.

11/18/2014 - After this workshop, participants will have a better understanding of the use for ePortfolios and will have designed an assignment that they set up in their ePortfolio. Is your assignment truly “integrated,” or is it just an “add-on?” How can you improve it?

Outcomes:

There is a growing interest in the use of ePortfolios as a learning tool at ODU. Research on the use of ePorfolios, along with a difficulty connecting with Millennial Learners has sparked a movement into using the ePorfolios to integrate student learning across curricula. Members of this Learning Community will have an opportunity to try using ePortfolios in their courses.
