Description:

Periodically, Blackboard Inc. releases updates to the Blackboard Learn learning management system that we use at ODU.  In this workshop, you will discover some of the key features that have been added or modified and discuss how they can benefit you and your students in the teaching and learning process.

In August, Blackboard's 2014 Spring Release was implemented and brought with it some significant and help new and modified features.  Some of the features include:

  • Student Preview (works like a virtual student with full access to all student actions in your course)
  • Group Management (can export group settings)
  • Date Management (can dynamically change all due dates with one date change or can change individually)
  • Course Message Notifications (alert you when a new message is posted)
  • Test Access Log (view details about a student's interaction with a test, particualrly when being "kicked out" is reported)
  • Reusable Objects (create frequently used Blackboard items, assignments, assessments in  your content collection so that you can link to them without recreating for each course)
  • Lynda.com (now in the mash-ups to search for Lynda courses directly from your course)
  • Calculated Formula Questions (now allow significant numbers)
  • Last but not Least - SafeAssign (Safe Assign is no longer an independent tool.  SafeAssign is integrated directly into the Assignment tool as a feature.  You can use in-line grading features!)
Objectives:

After attending this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • identify new or modified features that are relevant to their teaching
  • locate resources for help with ongoing job-aids and tutorials
Outcomes:

Participants will feel more comfortable with the updates in the university's learning management system and they will feel more confident sharing the information with their colleagues.
